I love the oddball items, the one-offs, the vintage, the unique. For me, these are the pieces that make a house a home, speak to the personality of the homeowner AND create a design that is far from humdrum and what you see everywhere else.
So, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite shops with you, as you may stumble across your own quirky or fabulous finds therein. These are just a few of my current faves.
I hope you enjoy this list!
I could easily buy nearly one of everything at L’Objet. The quality is superb, and the designs are unlike what you’ll see anywhere else. Irreverent, sexy, dramatic and whimsical (check out the Haas Brothers Monsters, incense burners), the question isn’t what to buy but when to stop.
Their most recent designs were a huge hit at Milan Design Week, and rightfully so. In this world of serious adulting, this is a store full of luxury products that also poke a little fun.

Lisa is a fine artist, illustrator and author with a resume a mile long of legit accomplishments.
Lucky for us she is still super affordable and we can shop her prints and wares on Etsy, or her brick and mortar in Portland.
The latest news is that she has a line of fabrics that are soon to be released, which is excellent news since I’m always on the hunt for interesting fabric designs and patterns.
Take a gander at Lisa’s retail digs below, I think this is reason enough for a road trip!
One of the preeminant stores for all things Mid-century Modern, I’m always blown away at the offerings at Red. Here you will find truly one-of-a-kind items with rich provenance from the heyday of MCM.
Located in Phoenix, AZ, Red ships everywhere in the US for free! (and I happen to know they ship regularly to MAJOR dealers and designers on both coasts).
Unlike some high-brow stores that are unapproachable, Jonathan (the owner of Red) is helpful and down-to-earth, as well as a walking Google of vintage history and information.
And if Red is outside your budget, check out their second-tier store, Soda Pop Vintage, which you can find on Etsy.
Red Modern in all its glory!

Thoroughly modern but with a nod to vintage style, the designs at Opumo interject a bit of understated drama and cool vibe to any room.
My favorites to shop are their Art Prints, Slowdown Studio Throws, and Lighting.

Remember, friends don’t let friends design a home that is bland or boring.
